What kind of car is that for?
![]() 02/02/2016 at 21:08 |

This kind!

Aftermarket pipes, stock engine.

And?

This was going to be my guess:

Hahaha

Oh nice, I thought about one of those before I got my Mustang GT but it was too small. I’m 6'4" and had to have the seat all the way back
![]() 02/02/2016 at 21:29 |

They will only improve the car’s performance.

I actually thought about waiting to get a new GT when I bought it. Haha

Mine is a 2011 auto car, it’s a nice DD but a race car it is not.

Sounds like someone needs a project ;)
![]() 02/02/2016 at 21:41 |

I do, but I also have my Gran Torino as well, it’s a living project in a way. I need a BOSS 302 or GT500 and I’ll be happy.

JDL EL right? Warning: This will probably melt the plastic resonator hanging down from the stock intake that right near where it bends back down. Ask me how I know...
![]() 02/02/2016 at 22:37 |
|
Yep! Are you referring to the intake sound generator that pipes intake noise into the cabin?
![]() 02/02/2016 at 22:48 |
|
Nope, there is a small resonator right around that place that hangs strait down. Here is a pic for reference:
Got a lean code at auto-x one day and noticed a hole in the bit that hands down. Thankfully one of my buddies had found a prescription bottle cap that perfectly fit over the whole and then we taped the crap out of it. Was a fine solution until I replaced the intake with a grimspeed one.

I may actually be picking up a Grimmspeed intake used off of a buddy, so I may just pull the trigger on that.
Was your header coated?
![]() 02/02/2016 at 23:00 |
|
Up, coated and catted, looks exactly like what you got. Tuned made the car sooooo much better. The tuner I went was able to give me a flat torque curve and it just feels great.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 23:29 |
|
Nice! What tuner did you go with? I’m leaning toward Delicious.
![]() 02/03/2016 at 07:54 |
|
Quite a bit in fact. With an EcuTek and a good tune it will flatten out the torque dip and put the car around 200whp.

I went to a sort of local place (3 hour drive) called EFI tuning in Bethel CT.

What are you doing to finish the exhaust, you’ve just got the muffler delete right now right?
![]() 02/03/2016 at 14:46 |
|
Yep. I’ll be putting the stock axleback on again, because a muffler delete would be way too loud. I’ll likely get a catted and resonated FP/OP combo and install that with the header and stock axleback.
Then based on how loud that is I’ll either get a nicely muffled catback axleback, something like the Nameless muffled axleback, TRD catback, or Corsa catbck. or just put different tips on the stock muffler if it’s loud enough. My goal is more to keep things a bit quieter. The gains from going catless and/or non-resonated on the FP/OP wouldn’t be all that significant, but sound would likely be much louder.

I’m a big fan of the Q300.
On the FA20dit it’s the only system I’ve heard that I liked. It keeps the tone deep and gets rid of a lot of the raspyness.
I assume it would do similar for your non turbo motor.
![]() 02/03/2016 at 15:32 |
|
Yeah, the Q300 and similar exhausts (TRD and Greddy Supreme SP come to mind) sound nice. I can’t stand the N1 though. haha
![]() 02/03/2016 at 15:38 |
|
I don’t know how the 86 groups are but Q300's are always for sale used for half price on WRX groups. Apparently they aren’t loud enough....
![]() 02/03/2016 at 15:43 |
|
Most people in the 86 world have the N1, because hard parking rice. lol
Because they aren’t turboed the Toyobarus get way louder with exhaust mods, especially the header and FP. Turbo does a surprising amount of quieting down.
![]() 02/03/2016 at 15:49 |

Fortunately I’m guessing many are too cheap/lazy to do more than a catback. With your high compression I’m sure it’ll be very loud with your new parts, probably illegal at some tracks.
Speaking of loud ricers, was the green civic with nitrus, studded tires and a straight pipe at the ice race last saturday? It seriously sounded like a chain saw from the paddock reverberating off of everything.
![]() 02/03/2016 at 15:56 |
|
Yeah, I have a feeling I may just be putting new tips on the stock muffler. I’ll put on the header with a catted and resonated FP/OP combo and then do the tune and see how it is.
Lol I’m not sure, but I don’t think so.
![]() 02/03/2016 at 16:38 |
|
that’s a good idea, it just stinks to have to pay for a second tune if you end up changing it later.
![]() 02/03/2016 at 16:42 |
|
Yeah, I may just do my research and get all the right parts the first time around.

Once you find a tuner, I’m sure they’ll be able to give you some advice, given that you’re probably not the first person with this or a setup similar they’ve worked on.
